In an era where technology acts as a strategic linchpin in the global economy, the role of innovation and technical standards is omnipresent.
More than 10 years ago, Dr. Susann Lüdtke has been researching technical standards with a focus on China and beyond. Lüdtke’s research emphasizes the challenges of various stakeholders such as the industry, government, and academia when engaging in standardization efforts and is also concerned with risks deriving from deviating technical standards.
In 2020, Lüdtke published “The Secret of Lobbying in China”– a result of extensive field research in China. Her book shows how much the industry partakes in the development of standards in China’s building energy efficiency industry.
Dr. Lüdtke has an educational background in China Business and Economics. She achieved her doctoral degree in economics and has been working as a temporary research fellow at different universities since 2012. She gathered experience as an automotive industry consultant in agile project management and digital transformation projects.
Since 2018, Lüdtke has been working as a consultant for patent data analytics and IP management since 2018. Her professional background in patent data analytics allows her to dive deep into the latest standardization trends in high-tech industries, i.e., closely monitoring and analyzing key policy decisions and strategic announcements of the industry and state. She advocates for the recognition of this innovation-standardization nexus for geo-politics and geo-economics. Her goal is to demystify the comprehensive process of corporate innovation management, industrial policy decisions, and high-tech standardization efforts. She likes to illuminate how technical standards serve as a critical resource for industry and states alike, facilitating a deeper understanding of the power of standards for innovation, corporate strategy, and de-risking scenarios.
