DSA is proud to support the NATO APPROVED COURSE “DRAFTING, PRODUCTION and MAINTENANCE OF NATO STANDARDS” being held twice per year at NATO MARITIME INTERDICTION OPERATIONS TRAINING CENTRE (NMIOTC) premises in Crete, Greece.

The second iteration for 2024 was conducted on 07-11 October 2024 with the participation of twenty seven (27) trainees from twelve (12) NATO Members and Partners (Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden, United Kingdom & USA).

DSA Associate Col DEU ARMY (ret) Dieter Schmaglowski led and orchestrated the overall Course Curriculum, while DSA CEO Captain Hellenic Navy (ret) Nikolaos Myriounis supported segments on the NATO Standardization Process, the NATO Defence Planning and the Use of Civil Standards by NATO.

SCOPE OF THE COURSE

The course provides comprehensive knowledge to facilitate understanding of the procedures for development, production and maintenance of NATO standardization documents, including doctrines. It specifically focuses on the basic principles for drafting operational and materiel standards and covers multiple practical examples with thorough contextual explanation.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience is, first and foremost, candidates or already nominated custodians of NATO standards. Additionally, the course is also addressed to national representatives in NATO standardization bodies (Tasking Authorities/ Delegated Tasking Authorities/Working Groups), standards/custodial writing teams and national standardization personnel. Tasking Authorities staff and NATO bodies involved in the development of NATO standards are also invited to participate.

TRAINING STRATEGY

Small Group Training Activities (i.e. syndicate work, case studies, etc.) culminating in practical Task Assessments (syndicate work presentations) to formally assess candidates’ performance.

The next iteration will be held in June 2025.
