Raising awareness of European Defence Standardisation in support of the implementation of the European Standardisation Strategy and the European Industrial Strategy is considered of the utmost importance.

On this basis, DSA is proud to offer a new course on "European Legislation on Standardization in Defence and Security Procurements (Directive 2009/81/EC) – Standard EN 16341 “Selection of Standards and Standard-like documents for Defence Products and Services – Order of preference”. The course is being offered in the format of a Webinar (duration of 2.5 hrs).

The scope of the course is to support project managers in the selection and use of applicable standards and standard-like documents in European defence and security acquisition programs.

The course aims to enhance awareness of the European Technological and Industrial Base (ETIB) on the optimum use of EN 16341. The EN16341 applies to the provision, development, use, improvement, and disposal of defence products and services in accordance with Chapter 2 of Directive 2009/81/EC. It also applies to measures intended to maintain the operational readiness of products.

The target audience of the course is focused on representatives of the European Industrial and Technological Base, Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Representatives of Technical, Commercial and Industrial Chambers and Research and Technology Stakeholders.

The course consists of 3 segments:

The first segment is focused on the facts and the challenges in the EU towards a single market and a robust and competitive industrial and technological base on emerging and disruptive technologies (EDTS). In this framework, this segment offers a general overview of the capability clusters required by nations and the qualification criteria required by their Defence and Security Technological and Industrial Base (DTIB) stakeholders.

The second segment presents the European Legislation on Standardization in Defence and Security Procurements (Directive 2009/81/EC), and the application of the European Standard EN 16341 “Selection of Standards and Standard-like documents for Defence Products and Services – Order of preference” in support of the preparation and qualification of the ETIB for participating in European tenders and contracts.

The third segment presents International and European Defence Standardization Management Systems and Tools used in support of identifying, selecting and implementing the best practice standards required for defence and security procurements projects.
